Lexington Public Library and Seedleaf partner for free seed packets

The Lexington Public Library and Seedleaf have partnered to offer free seed packets available to the public at the Central, Northside, Tates Creek, and Village Branch locations on a first-come, first-served basis. There are twelve varieties of seeds available and they may be picked up via curbside service at the participating library locations.

“Gardening has become one of the most popular hobbies in America today,” said Seedleaf Executive Director Christine Smith.  “Many people use gardening as a way to relax, relieve stress and enjoy the great outdoors. Here at Seedleaf, we hope that all of our neighbors get the chance to garden and we are happy to continue our partnership with the Lexington Public Library to share the importance gardening has in keeping our ecosystem healthy and the joy people get from being outdoors and at one with nature.”

The partnership between Lexington Public Library and Seedleaf, now in its third year, has helped Central Kentuckians grow their own food, connect with nature, and support our local ecosystem. Seedleaf has also installed a community garden at the Northside Branch and provided programs for library customers since 2018.

“Gardening has been a popular topic with Lexington Public Library customers, and we have hundreds of titles in our collection devoted to it.  We are delighted to offer this opportunity for local residents to gain first-hand experience with gardening and food cultivation,” said LPL Executive Director Heather Dieffenbach.  Gardening has been shown to improve mental and physical health, provides a sustainable food source, improve the environment, and protect local ecosystems.
