Jason G. Wells takes on his new role as Lexington’s fire chief on January 4, 2021. He is a 25-year veteran of the Lexington Fire Department and served as Assistant Chief of Administration prior to taking on this new role. He replaces Chief Kristin Chilton who retired in October.
During the official ceremony, Mayor Gorton presented Wells with his new badge as his father, Jim, pinned it on. Chief Wells followed his father into the Lexington Fire Department.
Chief Wells spent most of his career on Engine 4 located, which is located on Jefferson Street before working his up in the Division through a number of administrative roles. He recently participated in the Fire Service Executive Development Institute, which develops highly effective fire chiefs.
Chief Wells and his wife, Fay, are longtime Lexington residents. They have one daughter.
